Maybe it's some kind of character growth, or something, that Janet can admit to herself she's a little bit nervous. It's embarrassing, but it would be stupid to pretend otherwise. It's also bizarre, because she hasn't been nervous about a date since she was a first year at Brakebills and Sebastien from the five-zillion-generations-of-magic family asked her out. (He turned out to be a dick. Quelle surprise.)

Anyway. The point is, she's kind of nervous, because Susan is meeting her here in T-minus not that many minutes, and this is undeniably date number three, and Janet's not supposed to give a shit about how it goes, but she can also admit to herself that she really wants it to go well. She blow-dried her hair, for Christ's sake. That was the first blow-dryer she'd seen in years, but apparently the mansion could tell she needed one. She's still in jeans, but they're nice ones, dark wash and everything. Her blouse is wine-red and off the shoulder. Basically, she's taken the whole date night thing to heart.

She's in one of the nicer lounges, one with some atmospheric exposed brick and expensive-looking furniture. There's a bottle of what she's about ninety-seven percent sure is real Fillorian wine on the table in front of her, along with two clean and empty wineglasses. There are no words on the label of the bottle, but there is a sigil of two rams' heads, which makes her irritable and nostalgic at the exact same time. Her legs are crossed, ladylike as hell, and her boots are freshly polished.

The only way to get around any potential nerves, nonexistent though they may be, is to barrel right on through. Janet gets to her feet, snagging both her own wineglass and the bottle, and doesn't hesitate to lead Susan toward her bedroom, up the stairs and down one of the many halls.

Susan follows, half a step behind - largely so that she can (visibly) appreciate the way Janet's body moves when she walks with purpose. When they reach Janet's door, she slips two fingers through the belt loop on the side of Janet's jeans.

Janet grins to herself and then juggles her glass and the bottle into the same hand so she can momentarily grip Susan's wrist, then reach to open the door. "What, impatient?" she says archly, as she tugs Susan inside behind her.

Actually, Susan is a paragon of restraint and patience. This is the longest she's ever waited to sleep with someone she's decided to pursue! "Appreciative," she corrects, pulling her hand free again, then running her fingertips along the top of the waistband of Janet's jeans.

"Those are absolutely not mutually exclusive." Janet turns, her smile softening for a second as she looks down at Susan's hand. Fuck it, she decides, and she takes a swig of Fillorian wine straight from the bottle. "For instance, I'm really appreciating your dress, and I'm impatient to get you out of it."

"It does look better off," Susan agrees. She wraps her hand around Janet's where it's clutching the neck of the bottle, bringing it to her mouth and letting her lips brush against Janet's fingers as she takes a swig of her own. "I imagine your clothes do, too."

Janet's whole demeanor goes more intent as Susan's mouth touches her fingers. "Hey, we wined and dined each other for about twenty whole minutes. That counts as the third date in the bag." She takes back the bottle and sets it decisively on her desk. It would be pretty easy to keep up the flirting, but she wasn't kidding when she called herself impatient, too. She kicks off her boots, one after the other, and then starts sliding out of her jeans, too.

Susan stops her with a kiss, deep and intent from the onset, licking into Janet's mouth as she curves a hand over her ass. "I like the taste of your Fillorian wine," she murmurs, partly because she thinks Janet might laugh at what a terrible line it is, and then kisses her again.

Susan's right: Janet laughs, but it gets swallowed up by the kiss, and she doesn't make any effort to stop that. Actually, she meets it without hesitation, opening for Susan's tongue and putting both hands at Susan's hips to pull her in.

Since Susan almost definitely put her glass down on the desk, too, when Janet deposited the wine there, she wraps her arms around Janet's neck. Janet isn't that much taller than her - certainly not tall enough that she needs to crane to reach her - but she tilts her head back just the same, letting her masses of loose hair brush against Janet's hands.

God. That really is so much hair. Janet grips Susan's hips a little tighter, at first just in reaction and then with more purpose, because now she can steer her, walking her toward the bed until they bump up against it and she can urge Susan to sit.

Susan does let herself tumble back when she hits the bed, and pulls Janet with her as she goes, doing her best not to break the kiss in the process.

Janet goes, obviously. The kiss gets a little sloppy in the process, but that's okay. She chases Susan's mouth anyway, clambering onto the bed after her to straddle her lap and slide a hand to the back of her neck, curling her fingers into her hair.

Susan tilts her head back at the touch. This breaks the kiss, briefly, and she blinks at Janet. "I'm afraid I've distracted us from truly important matters," she says, and pushes a hand up the back of Janet's shirt.

The sound that comes out of Janet's a little too breathless to technically qualify as a laugh. "What, getting me naked? Or getting you naked? Or are those equally important matters?"

"Oh, all of the above, certainly," says Susan, kissing along Janet's jaw in between words, moving her hand up Janet's back and slowly drawing her shirt with it.

Janet lets her head tip to the side, welcoming Susan's kisses there, but then: "Let me help you, Your Majesty." She sits up just enough to peel her blouse off in one impatient motion and to toss it across the room to join her boots and jeans.

Susan allows herself a long moment of running her eyes over the lines of Janet's body, just savoring the look of her. Then she starts to unpick the knot holding her wrap dress closed, wondering why she bothered tying it so tightly before she went to meet Janet.

Janet watches this for a second, but then grins and holds out her hands, fingers spread in spellcasting position. "Want some help with that?"

Janet's smile shifts into a more focused expression. She crooks her fingers just so, a series of little gestures, and mutters in Greek under her breath. This is an easy spell, sure; first years can do it -- but there's something to be said for showing off for Susan anyway. The knot slithers undone.

"Well, isn't that a neat bit of spellcraft!" says Susan, half-rising in a way that lets her dress fall open, revealing the rather intricate longline bra she's wearing underneath. (Her standard stockings and garters are only hinted at, at this point; the edge of her garter belt is barely visible at the edge of the gap.)

Janet whistles lowly, not a proper wolf-whistle but definitely still one of appreciation. She managed to match her bra and underwear, but black and lacy suddenly looks pretty plain in comparison. "Damn, look at you."

"What, this old thing?" but Susan's tone is smug. She has no complaints about Janet's lingerie, and gives it a lingering once-over. "You look phenomenal."

"Takes one to know one." Janet sets a hand at Susan's waist again, feeling out the curve there, then walks it up to cup her breast through that bra. Her hand's not even big enough, which is dizzying along the same lines as the sheer volume of hair at play. "Is this what you normally have going on under your clothes? Or is it just a special occasion?"
